For Monday, September 10

Please label the sections that we marked in class from “Yali’s Question.” Think about the purpose of each section: what does it accomplish as part of the larger introduction?  Then, read “Up to the Starting Line,” focusing on how Diamond begins to lay out the case that he makes in the prologue, an attempt to answer Yali’s question.  Lastly, read the Marx, paying careful attention to how Marx perceives the flow of history. Ask yourself, “in what ways might Marx agree with Zinn and Diamond, and where would he disagree?” Finally, be sure to answer the questions; there will likely be a quiz.
